The Politicially Correct Police have decided that the words "old folks" and "plantation" are offensive.  Therefore, www.justsingflorida.org has been set up by the Florida Leglislature to select three finalist songs. Deadline October 1, 2007. The leglislature plans to replace Swanee River with another song in 2008.

Save Swanee River, our old folks and the word plantation by contacting your representative.  Tell them you want to keep the song.  I am submitting my request that will allow Floridians more choices: (1) Keep the modern version with "old folks" and "plantations." (2) Keep the modern version; replace the word plantation with "home place." (3) Keep the music; write new words. (4) Select my favorite song: "I'VE HEARD FREEDOM'S WHISTLE BLOW," by H.J. Kuntry (Herbert John Carter) (5) Select "THE FLORIDA SONG," by Charles Atkins - This is a great song; but, sounds waaay tooo much like Georgia's - "Georgia on my mind," by Ray Charles.  This song was sung at Charlie Crist's inauguration.

Georgia has a great state song and so does Florida.  Let's keep ours.  The music of Stephen Foster is recoginized around the world.  Swanee River is associated with Florida by millions of people around the globe.  

Contact your city, county and state representatives.  Tell you neighbors to do the same.  Save Swanee River, old folks and the word plantation from the excessively politically correct crowd.
