Good question Jay,
The official line will be that Sen. Hill and Rep. Homan carry the ball ... not taxpayers. Music Educators and private donors picked up the ball, etc., etc., etc. without cost to taxpayers.
Truth is: EXCESSIVE POLITICAL CORRECTNESS is dangerous and expensive. The change Swanee River effort is symptomatic. The tragic Anderson death in P.C. would have never been settled prior to trial if a white kid had died. The amount was paid earlier, at more than twice the sum suggested by legislative advisers, prior to trial and the charges against the guards and nurse were inflated. Racial discrimination is alive and well in Florida. An honest investigation would reveal these facts.
Most employers, juries and church people discriminate in favor of minorities. Sure, there exist a small number of racists. They come in all colors. Most conservative citizens would love to elect a conservative black person or a woman. But, excessive political correctness may influence some to support a candidate to show that they are not a racist, sexist or bigot.
I'm considered by some folks to be a dumb uncultured redneck because I oppose tax funding of a $200 million dollar performing arts center. Some consider me to be uneducated because I believe genetic science has debunked ape to human evolution and believe that human controllable gorebal warming is a farce. Oh yea, also, I'm a bad guy because I believe marriage should be between one man and one woman.
Yes, some are apologizing for slavery. Political Correctness has run amuck. I could go on and on. You can see that I don't have any strong opinions about these issues.
I'm off to prepare for a trial tomorrow. Thanks for the question.

"This was a tragic death of a fellow citizen in our community. Are you comfortable using the term "residentially challanged"? Let me know your thoughts. Should we use this term in a politically correct vocabulary? Thanks B.P. for bringing the term to my attention. Thanks Stephen & Shirley Fox for writing a LETTER TO THE EDITOR." Pace
